Nakamura-Tome Turning Machines
Once mentioned about multitasking CNC machine, many people will talk about Nakamura-Tome at their first option. Let’s look on Nakamura-Tome history and products detail.

NAKAMURA-TOME PRECISION INDUSTRY CO.,LTD. has established a firm position as a leader in the machine tool industry, developing products by utilizing innovative technologies fostered in mother machines such as “Precision CNC lathe”and “Precision Machining Center”. Also as a comprehensive glass-processing machine manufacturer, Nakamura-Tome has developed and supplied machines for processing advanced parts used in IT devices, such “Hard Discs”, “Optical Lenses”, “Optical connectors”, and “Liquid Crystal Displays”. By using cutting-edge advanced technologies among others, Nakamura-Tome is determined to keep customer satisfaction at the highest level.
Tomeo Nakamura, the founder of Nakamura-Tome Precision Industry, retired from working in textile machinery, and after 2 years, he founded “Nakamura-Tome Iron Works” in 1949 with his wife. At the beginning, there were only a turning center and a drillling machine in the factory.
The ironworks, that started business as a sub-contractor, had a good start, and the numbers of workers and machines increased as time went by. In 1956, they moved the factory to another location for expanding business. At that time, there were around 60 workers. Nakamura-Tome Precision Industry Co., Ltd.was founded by Tomeo Nakamura. In order to progress from a job shop to a manufacturer, a new organization was establised and its corporate name was renamed to Nakamura-Tome Precision Industry Co., Ltd. Tomeo Nakamura took office as President. The unique name “Nakamura-Tome” took root in the market and in society, and its products dominated in both domestic and international markets.

In 1962, the first product, a hydraulic groove turning center, was announced. Nakamura-Tome made steady steps as a machine tool manufacturer. The first NC Turning Center “ATM-4M” developed in 1974 was released at the 7th JIMTOF held in Osaka in October 1974. The ATM-4M, developed by Nakamura-Tome comprehensive technology, received a lot of attention and was praised by specialists.

In 1971, a ceremony for shipping the ATM to U.S.A. and Australian markets was held. In 1975, service stations were opened in Chicago and Los Angeles U.S.A., as well as in Hamburg, Germany. Customer-Friendly FA series, realizing lavor-saving and easy automation even in small factories, were introduced. Since Customer-Friendly FA series were introduced at the Osaka International Machine Tool Fair in 1986, they made their way through into the market. They were praised for achieving a drastic reduction of production costs, which led to a substantial increase in sales figures.
